How do I get started? Contact John Sutton with either an idea of what car you are interested in purchasing and your budget. John can advise you what kinds of vehicles fit your budget and lifestyle, and will give you an expected wholesale or auction price of the vehicle. John will then conduct a search of the Dealers-Only auctions to find potential vehicles that match your preferences and criteria, and then present you with a condition report of each vehicle. Once you give John the green light to bid on a car, he will act as your auction representative.
What are the fees involved?
One of the best aspects of working with John Sutton is his complete transparency. John Sutton Imports charges a procurement fee for each vehicle purchased at the auction. The fee is a minimum of $1,000 and a maximum of $2,500. If the auction block price falls between $16,500 and $41,500 the procurement fee is 6% of the block price.
What does a condition report mean, and what do the numbers signify?
A condition report accompanies almost all of the cars sold at auction, and describes the relative condition of the vehicle on a scale of 0 to 5, with 0 being completely unacceptable, and 5 being completely perfect. When available, John will share the condition report of all potential cars with you, and then follow up with a personal inspection of the car before the auction. John will then give you his opinion of the car before it goes to auction, and then you can decide if you would like to purchase it.
Does John Sutton Imports have standing inventory?
Not really. Occasionally John will purchase very exceptional cars at auction without a buyer in mind, and he will post these on Auto Trader (please see our Auto Trader info page). But because John Sutton does not operate a dealership lot, he usually has very little, if any, inventory.
How do the auctions work?
John can bid in the auctions in three different ways: attending a live auction in person, bidding online in a live auction, and entering a proxy bid prior to an auction that bids automatically up to your price cap. John will be your representative at the Dealers-Only auctions, and will keep you updated on the bidding process and the status of your potential car.
How quickly can I buy a car? The process can actually happen very quickly, depending on how soon there is an auction with your ideal car in inventory. The auctions are held multiple times a week across the country, so as soon as you find a car that you want to purchase, the transaction can go forward.
What if the car I want to purchase isn't being auctioned where I live? John will have the car you purchase delivered to you anywhere in the continental United States. John locates vehicles at auctions across the country, so it does not matter if the car you wish to buy is being auctioned near you or not.
What if I need the car shipped somewhere? John can facilitate the shipment of your vehicle anywhere in the continental United States.
